Comedy - the dramaturgical genre of Greek theater used as inspiration - originated in Athens, in the 6th century BC, a period in which theatrical plays were ritualistic celebrations (tragoedia) to worship Dionysus, god of fertility and wine. In the rituals, masks made of natural elements, such as wood, were used to enhance the emotions they wanted to convey.
