Brazilian Kayapo Indigenous Mask

CR583-51

This ethnic mask with a raised base, carved and handcrafted by artists from Curral da Cor, is inspired by the cultural richness of the Kayapó people. The indigenous ethnic group of Brazil, located on the tributaries of the Xingu River, is so named due to the ritual in which they use a monkey mask as a vestment, although they call themselves Mebêngôkre - the men of the hole or water sources.

The colorful painting that personalizes the wooden art from Prados-MG shows the cultural value of the indigenous cosmology of the Kayapó ethnic group and the complexity of ritualistic practices, such as the naming ritual for honored children. From this ritual, the Indians are subjected to body painting with tribal designs of genipap and urucu, in addition to receiving bone ornaments.

The raised metal and wood support highlights the unique character of the piece on the surfaces, making it a legitimate statement for decoration guided by the Brazilian spirit. The glossy finish obtained by applying wax and polishing with a polisher protects the details of the decorative mask and makes them maintain the original beauty of Minas Gerais art for longer.

Overall dimensions of the piece:
Height 34cm x Width 16cm x Depth 7.5cm

Mask only dimensions:
Height 21cm x Width 16cm
