Pair of sculptures "Fu Lions" made in casting (powdered stone of volcanic origin mixed with other synthetic materials) for garden decoration.
Fu Lions are also known as "Lions of Buddha", "Rui Shi" and were positioned at the front of palaces, temples, tombs, government buildings and homes of fortunate men, from the Han Dynasty until the fall of the Empire in 1911, as it believed believed to have strong mystical powers of protection.
They always appear in pairs, with the female on the left and the male on the right. Under the male's paw is a ball, which represents the "Cycle of Life" and under the female's paw is a baby, which represents the "Flower of Life".
